4-H Regional Nutrition Workshop for Market Animals

A 4-H Regional Nutrition Workshop for Market Animals will be held at The Farmers’ Museum, Cooperstown, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., April 12, 2014.  This workshop is open to  4-H members and youth interested in raising quality market animals.  Nutrition professionals will work with youth to determine the best feeding ration for their project animal(s).  Species sessions will be offered for beef, rabbit, sheep, goat, swine, and poultry.  The workshop will also offer information on the cuts of meat and marketing.

The registration fee for youth is $5 when registered by April 4 or $10 at the door.  The program is free for adult chaperones.  All participants MUST be registered for lunch.  Registration includes lunch and door prizes.  To register, call 607-547-2536 Extension 0, or visit online

Workshop presenters include Melanie Soberon, Nutrition, Cornell University; Brad Johnson, Professor, SUNY Cobleskill; Makenzie Fitzpatrick, Animal Nutritionist with Kent; Joe Hafele, Animal Nutritionist with Purina; Liz Farrow, Cornell University graduate; Eric Shelley, President/Consultant with Meat Pro; John Lathrop, beef producer .

The lunch sponsors are Purina & Byrne Dairy.  Prize sponsors include Lilley’s Feed and Needs, Country Max, Whites Farm Supply, and Tractor Supply. This educational workshop is presented by the 4-H programs in Oneida, Herkimer, and Chenango, and Otsego Counties.
