Come Have Fun at Family Day on the Farm

On June 9th, from 10am to 2pm a Family Farm Day event is being held at Joe and Sue Shultz’s farm in Lewis County. The farm is located at 7956 Number 3 Road, Lowville. This day of fun for the entire family will include educational displays. Hands-on activities will be dispersed throughout the farm to show you how milk makes its way from the cow to the grocery shelf. You’ll learn how cows are milked, what cows eat, and you may even get to pet a baby calf! There will also be a scavenger hunt with goody bags given to all the children who participate in the scavenger hunt. The Lewis County Dairy Princess and her court will be on hand, passing out free ice cream sundaes.

The event will also be of interest to other dairymen as the farm recently added an on farm processor allowing Joe and Sue to make their own cheese curd. The Family Farm Day is being coordinated by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Lewis County, Lewis County Farm Bureau and Lewis County Soil and Water Conservation District. If you have questions about the event, contact the Cooperative Extension office at 376-5270 or Peggy Murray at mlm40@cornell.edu. Funding for the event has been contributed by several local businesses and industry supporters including, the Lewis County Dairy Industry Building Committee, and the Lewis County Farm Bureau.

Come join the fun and bring the whole family!
